Garegin Zakoyan
Born April 5, 1947 in Yerevan. In 1970 graduated the philological faculty of Yerevan State University. In 1976 he defended his Ph.D thesis Armenian Silent Cinema. In 1973-1985 he worked at the Art Institute of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences as a research associate and as the head of Film and Television department in 1985-1991. He is the author of around 300 publications, including the books Armenian Silent Cinema (Yerevan, 1976), Film and Language (Yerevan, 1989) and Beyond the Vanishing Point (Strasburg, 2006). In 1991 he founded the Armenian National Cinematheque.
As a director he has made several documentary films, such as MIGNOR, Prison Art, Liturgy, Kajaran. Metamorphosis of the Rock, Hamo Beknazaryan. A Monologue, Guilty in Suicide. In 2007 he created the digital interactive film Sergei Parajanov. Monologue and legacy.
