Robert Safarian (Iran)

Born in Tehran to Armenian parents in 1954, he studied Cinema in the School of Iranian Television (IRIB college). Later he also studied Persian literature and got a degree. He has translated many articles and books on cinema and film theory such as Semiotics of Cinema (Christien Metz) and Film History: An Introduction (David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson). He has contributed to all major Iranian film magazines and newspapers as a film critic. As a documentary filmmaker, he has directed films such as Inversion (Varoonegi, 2006) on air pollution of Tehran, Tehran in Photographs (Tehran dar Aks, 2008), Conversation with Revolution (Goftegoo ba Enghelab, 2011), which is a new look at the Iranian revolution of 1979 and the concept of revolution in general and Between two Emigrations (Dar faseleyeh do Kooch, 2013 ). The last film is a portrait of Armenian-Iranian poet Azad Matian.
