Suren Hasmikyan (Armenia)
Born in 1935 in Yerevan, Armenia. In 1957 he graduated Yerevan State University, faculty of philology. As a postgraduate he studied film criticism in Moscow from 1958 to 1961. In 1970 he defended his Ph.D. thesis. In various years he has worked in the Institute of Armenia’s Academy of Sciences. He has also worked in “Hayfilm” studio as a script supervisor and editor while also being the head editor of Armenia’s State Film Committee. He started his pedagogical career in 1972 and continues teaching to this day. He is a lecturer in the Armenian Pedagogical University and especially in Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinematography, where for more than 10 years he was head of the department of Art history and theory. Since 1957 he has published about 500 articles, more than a 100 of which were theoretical. He is the author of 5 books – 4 on film, and 1 about XX century dramaturgy. He has also written a couple of scripts and plays.
