An old man feels nostalgic for a distant homeland. He wants to return. Internally displaced as a result of the ongoing conflict between the Pakistani military and the Taliban and forced to live in a camp, the family is caught between memories of what life was, an insecure present and a bleak future. Time and again, the question arises as to whether he’ll risk a return to his motherland.
Ammar Aziz
Born in 1989 in Lahore, Pakistan. He was led into filmmaking through his passion for literature and music. Graduated from Pakistan’s primary art institute National College of Arts with distinction in film studies, he has been expressing in various mediums. While making several short documentaries about the labor struggles in Pakistan, he has been closely affiliated with the leftist movement in the country. His thorough background in art and activism annotates his filmmaking, often impelling him to explore and examine complex subjects. A Walnut Tree is the debut feature-lenght film by Ammar Aziz, which was completed in 2015. The film was shot at the Jalozai Camp near Peshawar between 2013 and 2014.
