My Kingdom Is Not of This World
My Kingdom Is Not of This Earth uses religion as a way of accessing and understanding the everyday life of a German Mennonite community in Argentina. Silent landscapes, picturesque costumes, their monotonous daily tasks, their value of teaching. Entering their lands gives one a feeling of being transported into the past, as if time in this little world runs at a different pace than on the outside. It is a distant past: no light, no radio, no television, no cars, no computers, nothing that we might consider mundane. The documentary observes how this peculiar ethnic group lives, reinvigorating their culture on screen without interviews, subtitles, voiceovers, newsreels, or any music throughout the whole film.
