1936: Italy conquers Ethiopia. My 10 years old grandfather tells this story in a school notebook. Today, more than 80 years later, I find the little notebook, a unique archive material, and I ask myself: why did he never talk about that? A fascist image of Africa, filtered by the gaze and the drawings of a small boy, still remains shrouded in shadow. Through the materiality of images and sounds, The Imperial Lullaby is an attempt to follow the few traces left.
