Iraqi Kurdistan. What happens to war zones AFTER the spotlights go off? A mother’s diary accompanies us on her journey to reconstruct a normal life, made of simple things. It’s a frenetic, explosive, and unexpected euphoria. Life must go on. Disordered elements of post-traumatic stress syndrome ask to move away from the tragedies experienced in war. War Is Over is not a documentary about war: it’s a hymn to life, hope, and to a different way of seeing things.

Stefano Obino

Graduated in Dramaturgy at the School of Dramatic Art: Paolo Grassi of Milan, in 2005 Obino directed his first feature film The Gospel according to Precario. Obino has partnered with Current TV, Al Gore’s network, for the format “Vanguard”. He also collaborated with LaEffe-Feltrinelli-LaRepubblica. In 2016, his visionary documentary about the famous Italian folk singer Vinicio Capossela, In the Land of Coppoloni, was released in cinemas around Italy, becoming the most viewed documentary of the year. Since 2014, Obino lives in Berlin. His new works are the documentaries Bare-Handed, published online by The Guardian, and War Is Over, which premiered at Roma International Film Festival in 2021. Reviewed by film critics as “A filmic poem about the universal resilience of the human spirit”, War Is Over shows how Obino moved from a journalistic approach to more artistic storytelling, pushing the boundaries of his own vision in the documentary field.
