At the turn of the 80’s and 90’s Russian filmmaker Aleksey German created the “First and Experimental Film Studio”, which became famous for producing the works of young inexperienced directors. The film shows how the master chose talented directors and helped them to make their first steps and find their own way in the industry.

Sergey Karandashov
Sergey Karandashov was born on 26.02.1964 in Saint-Petersburg. In 1991 graduated from the department of fine arts of Russian Christian Academy for the Humanities. In the same year entered the director’s department of Aleksey German’s First and Experimental Film Studio “Lenfilm”. 1994 – 1997 he worked as a director-trainee at the filming of Aleksey German’s film “Khrustalyov, My Car!” Since 2009, he has been teaching film directing in the Saint-Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts. Since 2014, he has been the head of the filmmaking and screenwriting course at the Advanced Course for Screenwriters and Film Directors. He is a member of the Film Directors Guild of Russia.
